Our take on Estranged: The Departure
Players seeking elaborate combat systems may bounce when encounters rely on familiar shooter mechanics rather than deeper progression. Those expecting a direct continuation of Act I may also pause at the standalone-sequel structure, despite the returning setting and protagonist.
What is Estranged: The Departure?
A fisherman is swept onto an unfamiliar island by a severe storm and begins searching its shores.
His investigation leads to the concealed Arque Corporation and the hazardous, disorderly work taking place there. The story unfolds through objects, terminals, and recorded audio scattered around the environment, while firearms and close-range weapons support shooter-style encounters. This standalone follow-up to Estranged: Act I continues the protagonist’s effort to find a route home. A single developer created The Departure across six years, with assistance from volunteer translators and playtesters. The island’s inhabitants, discoveries, and narrative are revealed as exploration progresses.
