StrategyIs Ecosystem worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Simulation fans who want to observe evolution rather than directly control individual creatures
- Players interested in shaping habitats and studying population changes
- Strategy players who prefer ecosystem management over conventional armies or economies
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking direct action may find the focus on observing and guiding simulated organisms too indirect
- Those wanting a fixed campaign or tightly scripted progression may find the emergent structure repetitive
- Players looking for conventional city-building, military strategy, or business management may find the scope too specialized
Our take on Ecosystem
Instead of centering on construction, combat units, or resource production, this simulation makes evolution itself the main system. Creatures develop through inherited bodies and neural behavior, while terrain and selective pressures replace the usual campaign objectives.
What is Ecosystem?
Ecosystem simulates virtual lifeforms that develop from synthetic DNA in a physically modeled ocean.
DNA determines features including body structure, neural processing, and combat abilities. Creatures sense their surroundings, process information through neural networks, and move by applying forces at their joints. Releasing organisms with randomly generated bodies and brains allows natural selection to favor better swimmers across generations. Species compete through predation and combat, using traits such as electrical attacks or poisonous spikes. Tools unlocked during play let players set broad requirements or adjust swimming variables. Worlds can be generated with different ocean depths and soil types, or shaped manually. Population charts, species family trees, Steam Workshop sharing, downloadable species, maps, and aquariums are also included.
How Ecosystem plays
- 01Evolutionary simulation
- Randomized bodies and neural systems change across generations as survival and reproduction favor certain traits.
- 02Aquatic physics
- Creatures move through water by coordinating joint forces with signals from their sensory systems.
- 03Species combat
- Electrical attacks, venomous defenses, and combat statistics affect relationships within the food chain.
- 04World sculpting
- Players can alter generated environments by raising terrain and creating underwater caves.
- 05Evolution tracking
- Population charts and lineage diagrams provide information about animals, plants, and individual species.
- 06Steam Workshop sharing
- Species, maps, and aquariums can be shared or downloaded for use in an ecosystem.
