StrategyIs Cellings worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Sandbox players who want to build and customize evolving cells
- Strategy players who enjoy balancing trade, alliances, and territorial fights
- Players seeking exploration alongside arena-based competition
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly linear campaign may bounce off the open-ended sandbox structure.
- Players who do not want to gather resources or develop a species across three generations may lose interest in the progression loop.
- Players looking for a focused single-genre game may find the mix of exploration, diplomacy, combat, and simulation too broad.
Our take on Cellings
The bounce point arrives when cell creation gives way to resource management and species diplomacy. Players who want immediate combat may need to gather materials, produce cell-mates, meet other species’ requirements, or buy goods before the broader progression takes shape.
What is Cellings?
Cellings is a creative sandbox set in an abstract procedural world populated by different species.
Players create cells in an editor, assigning parts with attributes for attraction, speed, defense, and damage. Across three generations—Neural Adaptation, Relational Adaptation, and Biological Adaptation—cells gather resources, produce additional cell-mates, acquire materials, and develop their species. Encounters with other species can lead to trade and alliances, or fights to seize their homes. Three arena modes—Death-matches, Duels, and Protein Wars—offer contests for Protein used in cell-part crafting. Species can be customized with collected parts and colors, then shared through Steam Workshop. The game also includes multilingual support, an original soundtrack, and unexpected behavior within its stylized worlds.
