Our take on Draft of Darkness
The defining pressure comes from combat itself: each successful encounter raises the map’s darkness, making the stage more dangerous while also offering rewards.
What is Draft of Darkness?
Draft of Darkness combines survival horror, role-playing, deck construction, and roguelike exploration in a post-apocalyptic world.
Select a survivor and initial cards, then traverse maps generated anew for each attempt. Turn-based battles use cards and limited ammunition against infected beings, robots, and rival survivors. Additional survivors can join the group, each bringing a distinct ability deck. Trading provides equipment and cards, while radiation, infection, and other status concerns affect the party. Defeating enemies increases the area’s darkness, raising danger in subsequent sections but offering possible rewards. Decisions made during the story can alter its conclusion and available routes. Whether a run succeeds or ends in failure, earned credits can open booster packs containing starting cards for later attempts.
How Draft of Darkness plays
- 01Weapon-based decks
- Cards are used by equipping weapon types, whose distinct mechanics can be combined in a deck.
- 02Rising darkness
- Each successful encounter increases the map’s danger level, with rewards also tied to surviving the darkness.
- 03Run-based card unlocks
- Credits earned after a run can open booster packs containing starting cards for later attempts.
- 04Choice-driven story
- Decisions can change the story’s outcome and create different routes through progression.
