Our take on Devil Engine
Its focus on arcade scoring gives up the variety of a broader adventure structure. The six-stage format, repeated score runs, and emphasis on multiplier management favor mastery of compact challenges over a long, narrative-heavy campaign.
What is Devil Engine?
Devil Engine is a fast-paced, side-scrolling shoot-'em-up set in a dark future, where one ship confronts Earth's military to stop a disastrous outcome.
The game presents six stages with hand-drawn pixel artwork and music by composer Hyakutarou Tsukumo. Players select from three shot types, each paired with a distinct bomb, and build score multipliers through careful play. A burst that absorbs bullets can be used to cash in the combo. Eight modes focus on score competition. Collected points also function as unlock currency for visual shaders, extra music, additional stages, and playable ships.
How Devil Engine plays
- 01Three weapon setups
- Each firing option comes with its own bomb attack for clearing threats.
- 02Combo-based scoring
- Careful play raises a multiplier that can be converted through a bullet-absorbing burst.
- 03Eight score modes
- Multiple modes provide different settings for competing on points.
- 04Unlockable content
- Points can be spent on shaders, music, stages, and ships.
- 05Six-stage campaign
- The run moves through six detailed locations in a single-ship mission.
