Our take on DarkDIRE: The Advanced Set
Its defining constraint is the absence of save games: every character inhabits the same shared world, making the setting persistent across characters.
What is DarkDIRE: The Advanced Set?
DarkDIRE is a role-playing game set in randomly generated kingdoms and dungeons.
Characters choose four skills from a selection of more than fifty, then use disciplines such as blacksmithing, tailoring, alchemy, fletching, and gem cutting to craft equipment. Players can accept quests, raid enemy kingdoms for loot, sell what they find, and challenge rulers to take control of a kingdom. Kingdoms can be rebuilt, with non-player characters hired or dismissed. Combat includes horseback attacks, weapon swings, jousting, spells, and arrows that travel as physical projectiles. The world contains over 30 nations, multiple biomes, predetermined locations placed randomly, and dungeons reached through staircases. There are no save games, and local-network players can join the shared game world.
