Our take on Cryptmaster
Word-driven interaction gives the adventure unusual flexibility, but it also makes progress depend on recalling or supplying suitable terms. The changing mechanics add variety while reducing the consistency of a single focused gameplay loop.
What is Cryptmaster?
Cryptmaster is a dungeon-crawling adventure in which typed or spoken words control interactions, quests, puzzles, and combat.
Four undead heroes ascend through buried parts of a city, including the Bonehouses, Sunken Sea, and Downwood, while recovering lost memories and confronting a necromancer. Players uncover forgotten abilities, solve word-based riddles, and enter battle by recalling spells and entering their names. The journey includes talking doors, toads, ghouls, and other unusual characters, along with creature collecting, card games, fishing, and bardic rap battles. Encounters can have multiple solutions, and the game introduces different mechanics as the party progresses.
