Our take on CHEXS
Instead of waiting for one side to finish a move before responding, CHEXS has both players plan their pieces at the same time and resolves those orders together. Its hexagonal board and altered piece rules replace the standard chess grid and turn sequence with contested spaces and simultaneous movement.
What is CHEXS?
CHEXS reworks chess as a simultaneous-turn strategy game on a hexagonal board.
Both players issue orders to all their pieces, after which every movement is processed at once. The objective remains capturing the opposing king, while pieces can contest hexes and combine attacks to create shifting fronts. The game includes an AI opponent, open matchmaking, and private online matches. Its pieces use altered movement rules: pawns advance toward the enemy across one of three hexes, rooks can become invulnerable when left still, horses jump two hexes in a straight line, bishops move one or two hexes, queens move one hex, and kings also move one hex. A captured king ends the game.
How CHEXS plays
- 01Simultaneous Orders
- Both players direct all their pieces before the game resolves their movements together.
- 02Hexagonal Chessboard
- The board changes how familiar chess pieces move and creates contests over individual hexes.
- 03Online Match Options
- Players can use open matchmaking or create private matches.
- 04AI Opponent
- An artificial intelligence opponent is included for non-human matches.
- 05Modified Piece Rules
- Pawns, rooks, horses, bishops, queens, and kings each follow movement rules distinct from standard chess.
