Our take on Beyond the Long Night
The run-based structure trades a fixed route for changing layouts and repeated attempts. That variation supports build experimentation, but players seeking a consistent sequence of areas must adapt to each new arrangement.
What is Beyond the Long Night?
This single-player action roguelike follows an explorer through the Dark Mountain, a subterranean kingdom trapped in a time loop.
Players shoot, dodge, throw items, and use Superpowers while battling enemies across three randomly generated areas assembled from handcrafted rooms. Upgrades can be stacked and combined to create different combat builds. A deadly storm spreads from chamber to chamber and pursues the player up the mountain, adding time pressure to exploration and fights. Runs also include puzzles, secrets, side quests, and conversations with cave dwellers who remember earlier attempts. Completing the game unlocks new upgrades. The story explores the mountain’s history, its demigods and explorers, and the cause of the storm.
How Beyond the Long Night plays
