Our take on Acolyte
Free-form conversation gives the investigation an open-ended structure, but it provides less control over a precisely authored sequence of dialogue and story beats. The ARG format also shifts part of the experience beyond the game’s immediate setting.
What is Acolyte?
Acolyte is a narrative detective and ARG game set inside Nanomax, a technology start-up developing a consumer AI application.
As a remote employee, the player communicates with company staff, examines unexplained dismissals and disappearances, and investigates a classified software problem. The player’s Acolyte accepts natural-language input rather than selecting from fixed dialogue choices, and conversations influence a non-linear story. ARG elements extend parts of the narrative into the real world. Puzzles involve examining the assistant’s programming, while customization changes its appearance and interactions. The game follows a conspiracy connected to the company and the Acolyte itself.
How Acolyte plays

- 03Acolyte customization
- The assistant’s appearance and conversational behavior can be personalized.
- 04Programming puzzles
- Investigations include puzzles centered on examining the assistant’s code.
