Our take on YOBA
The bounce point arrives at the first death: progress returns to level 1, so players expecting checkpoints or local retries will hit the game's main wall immediately.
What is YOBA?
YOBA asks players to gather every coin in a level before advancing.
Hazards must be avoided, and a death sends the run back to the first level. Progress can also require activating mechanisms or other systems, with each stage asking for a particular sequence of actions. The game presents these situations as something to think through and retry, while its music changes from level to level. It was announced in 2007 and is available on Steam. The store text presents the early stages as deceptive in difficulty, with failure carrying a full restart.
How YOBA plays
- 01Coin-based progression
- The next stage opens only after the current stage's coins have been collected.
- 02Full-run restart
- Dying returns progress to the first level.
- 03Mechanism activation
- Some routes require mechanisms or other systems to be triggered before movement can continue.
- 04Changing music
- The music changes from one level to another.
