Is We Are The Caretakers worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy RPG players who want squad management alongside a fixed narrative campaign
- Players interested in turn-based encounters that combine diplomacy with force
- Fans of science-fiction settings who want to manage factions, research, and alliances
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a single combat system rather than a game that combines turn-based encounters, RTS-style pausing, squad building, and headquarters management
- Players seeking an open-ended sandbox instead of a 23-mission narrative campaign with escalating conflicts
- Players who do not want to track reputation, funds, research, animals, and alliances between missions
Our take on We Are The Caretakers
The bounce point arrives when squad deployment becomes a broader campaign-management task. Players comfortable with combat alone may hit a wall at the headquarters layer, where recruiting, research, alliances, reputation, and competing demands all feed into the next decisions.
What is We Are The Caretakers?
We Are The Caretakers is a 3D strategy RPG set in a post-apocalyptic science-fiction world.
The 23-mission campaign combines squad building, strategic turn-based combat, RTS-style play with pausing, and narrative events. Recruit characters with different traits, abilities, weaknesses, and personalities, then assign them to up to 9 parties and develop them across more than 30 job classes. At headquarters, research technologies, recruit allies, and manage competing demands. World decisions affect reputation, funds, research, animals, and alliances. A technology tree connects field upgrades with larger research projects, while diplomacy and force shape turn-based encounters. The story follows a secret faction defending endangered Raun animals while investigating a mysterious alien presence and the collapse of the energy barrier around Shadra.
