Skip it if you…

Our take on Refuge
The listing presents a broad mix of combat, construction, diplomacy, creatures, and technology, but the non-VR limitation is easy to overlook: that mode provides only the editor and drawing function. The advertised survival campaign therefore depends on VR access.
What is Refuge?
Refuge is an apocalyptic sandbox game centered on surviving zombie attacks and rebuilding a shelter.
Players can craft weapons, improve their base, tame zombies, raise dragons, hunt animals, and develop camp technology. Defense options include automated artillery, vertical-takeoff drones, laser fences, and solar panels that supply power before a fusion battery is available. The game also includes diplomacy between scattered camps, with options to join alliances, attack settlements, and contest cities and territories. Other players can be contacted through an in-game phone, while an arena supports individual combat. The setting follows survivors living thirteen years after a pandemic, with an AI robot, conflicted zombie groups, and competing sanctuary interests. Outside VR, only the editor mode and drawing tools are available.
How Refuge plays
- 01Shelter Development
- Camp technology can be researched, while weapons, automated defenses, drones, laser barriers, and power systems can be built or upgraded.
- 02Zombie Interaction
- Some zombies can be domesticated, while others retain human awareness and may attack or assist survivors.
- 03Camp Diplomacy
- Scattered sanctuaries can be approached as allies or enemies, with alliances, attacks, and territorial conflict available.
- 04Player Communication
- An in-game phone allows contact with other players, and an arena provides individual combat competition.
- 05Non-VR Editor
- The non-VR mode is limited to editor mode and its drawing function.
