Our take on We Are Not Alone
The camera mechanic is the central tension: it protects Riley’s exploration, but puzzle solving requires putting it aside and accepting exposure. The store copy emphasizes this tradeoff alongside the mystery, while giving little detail about the puzzles’ variety or how player choices shape the endings.
What is We Are Not Alone?
We Are Not Alone is a horror adventure about Riley, who joins an isolation experiment run by the Osiris Initiative while searching for her missing sister.
The game takes place in an underground facility where Riley explores, finds items, solves puzzles, and investigates an unknown creature and the experiment. A camera changes how exploration and puzzle-solving work: looking through it provides a first-person view while keeping the creature from meeting Riley’s gaze, but setting it down for two-handed puzzles leaves her exposed. The story also involves a long-lost civilisation and offers multiple endings based on player choices. Riley’s aim is to uncover what is happening and escape alive.
How We Are Not Alone plays
- 01Camera-based exploration
- Looking through the camera lets Riley explore while the creature cannot meet her gaze.
- 02Item-based puzzles
- Puzzles use objects found during Riley’s time in isolation.
- 03Choice-based endings
- Player decisions determine which of the game’s multiple endings occurs.
- 04Two perspective modes
- Setting the camera down enables two-handed puzzle solving but leaves Riley vulnerable.
