Is Vasilis worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who prefer story-led adventure games over systems-heavy role-playing
- Players interested in fictionalized political unrest and wartime settings
- Players seeking a chapter-based narrative centered on one character
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a light or relaxed story may find the frequent deaths, riots, and cruel war events too grim
- Players seeking a mechanics-focused RPG may find the character and plot emphasis too narrow
- Players wanting a broad fantasy setting may not match with its politically grounded city conflict
Our take on Vasilis
The store presentation foregrounds the hand-drawn style and political backdrop, but the playable structure receives little explanation. The clearest picture is a five-chapter, character-centered adventure, rather than a detailed account of combat, progression, puzzles, or other interactive systems.
What is Vasilis?
Vasilis is a hand-drawn adventure game centered on Vasilis, whose husband Peter has disappeared in a city consumed by prolonged unrest.
Government forces have withdrawn from the center, leaving workers and students in control of an area protected by four towers that keep its residents alive. The story is organized into five major chapters and takes Vasilis through riots, cult activity, and violent wartime events. Its narrative draws on Ukrainian political events from 2014 and places the character’s search within a city where fires and deaths occur frequently.

- 02Hand-Drawn Presentation

Vasilis compared to similar games
Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition also centers on an unconventional story and characters, but places them in a strange, dangerous city within a classic RPG format. Ghost of a Tale combines its adventure with action-RPG systems, exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations, while Vasilis is presented primarily around its character and five-chapter plot. Back to the Dawn focuses on prison survival, investigation, crime, and escape rather than urban political unrest.
