Our take on Vaporum: Lockdown
The feature list gives equal weight to combat, puzzles, exploration, and customization, but the central obstacle's clues are spread across multiple levels. Progress therefore includes piecing together story information as well as handling fights and puzzles.
What is Vaporum: Lockdown?
This single-player, single-character prequel centers on scientist Ellie Teller after a disaster in Arx Vaporum.
She must find a way out of the tower while facing its dangers. Players move across a grid and fight in real time from a first-person perspective, with an option to pause the action through a stop-time mode. Combat draws on weapons, armor, gadgets, upgrades, boosters, and tactical choices against foes with different strengths and attack patterns. Puzzles and hazards involve interactive objects, while parts of the main objective are distributed across multiple levels.
Exploration provides loot and character-customization options. The story and setting are revealed through voiced conversations, audio diaries, and written notes about the tower’s world and residents. Its steampunk dungeon-crawling format takes cues from older games in the genre.
