RPGIs Vaporum worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Dungeon-crawler fans who want first-person grid exploration rather than an action-platforming format.
- Players who enjoy adapting weapons and gadgets to enemies with different weaknesses.
- Explorers who like optional challenge areas, hidden passages, and environmental puzzles.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want turn-based combat may hit a wall when encounters unfold in real time.
- Those who prefer brief, self-contained puzzles may find objectives spanning entire levels or multiple levels demanding.
- Players seeking cooperative play may not fit a single-player, single-character game.
Our take on Vaporum
The likely sticking point is combat pacing: players who rely on turn-based decisions may hit a wall once enemies require real-time responses and different tactics. Puzzle progression can also extend beyond a single room, so those expecting each obstacle to resolve locally may stall on level-spanning objectives.
What is Vaporum?
Vaporum is a single-player, single-character dungeon crawler set in a steampunk world.
Stranded on an islet, the protagonist enters a vast mechanical tower to investigate its history and identity. Movement follows a grid, while combat unfolds in real time; enemies have different strengths and weaknesses, and weapons bring distinct behaviors and bonuses. Gadgets provide attacks and buffs, and the loadout can be changed during play. Progression centers on upgrading an exoskeleton rig, unlocking permanent attribute increases and passive skills through circuits. Puzzles range from room-based riddles to objectives spanning multiple levels. Exploration includes optional challenge areas, secret passages, loot, and notes that reveal background details. Main story points are voiced, while reading found notes is optional.
How Vaporum plays
- 01Real-time encounters
- Enemy resistances and weapon-specific effects call for different approaches in combat.
- 02Exoskeleton progression
- Unlocking circuits adds lasting attribute increases and passive abilities to the rig.
- 03Changeable gadget loadout
- Gadgets cover direct and area attacks as well as offensive and defensive buffs, and can be swapped at any time.
- 04Tower-wide objectives
- Some progression tasks extend across a whole level or continue into another.
- 05Voiced story scenes
- Main plot points are spoken aloud, so found notes are optional for following the story.
