Our take on Vapormaze
Vapormaze replaces fixed shooter levels with regenerated mazes and combines run-based loss with upgrades that persist after death. Physical interactions also affect combat and movement: bullets can ricochet, and collisions can push the player or enemies.
What is Vapormaze?
Vapormaze is a roguelite first-person shooter set in a vaporwave maze.
Players navigate seven procedurally generated mazes, fight robots, avoid hazards, and search for the truth. Runs reset after death, removing weapons and items, while diamonds and purchased upgrades remain between attempts. Most objects are physically simulated: bullets have weight and can ricochet, and heavy enemies can push the player back. The PunchGun can move objects and enemies out of the way. Vending machines offer ammunition, health kits, weapons, and skill upgrades. Upgrades can stack and combine, so bombs can multiply and explode into bullets. Average sessions last between 20 minutes and 1 hour.
How Vapormaze plays
- 01Generated Mazes
- The seven mazes grow harder and more complex, and new layouts are generated for each playthrough.
- 02Persistent Upgrades
- Diamonds and upgrades bought at the diamond shop remain after death, while weapons and items are lost.
- 03Physical Interactions
- Bullets have weight and can ricochet, while collisions and heavy enemy attacks can push the player.
- 04Stacking Upgrades
- Upgrades work together, including combinations that make bombs multiply and burst into bullets.
- 05Vending Machines
- Machines around the maze sell ammunition, health kits, weapons, and skill upgrades.
- 06Robot Enemies
- Different types of robots behave differently and attack in different ways.
