Our take on Swamp Up
Its defining structure is route freedom within procedurally generated swamp maps: each run lets the player choose a path while ensuring that an onward route remains available.
What is Swamp Up?
Swamp Up is a precision platformer with roguelite elements in which a frog-like character searches for its family across a dangerous swamp.
Movement involves hopping between mushrooms and lily pads while avoiding water, piranhas, mosquitoes, a pursuing bird, and other hazards. Each run uses a procedurally generated map, allowing players to choose routes rather than follow predetermined paths. Power-ups appear throughout the map, while emblems can be spent on upgrades that remain available across adventures. Progression unlocks additional maps with different challenges and strategic demands. The game also includes distance and time records, collectible skins obtained through NPCs, and Steam Achievements.
How Swamp Up plays
- 01Procedural Swamp Maps
- Each playthrough generates a navigable route in any explored direction, creating changing paths through the swamp.
- 02Persistent Upgrades
- Emblems collected during adventures can be exchanged for improvements that carry into later runs.
- 03Multiple Maps
- Advancing through the game opens additional areas with distinct challenges and strategic requirements.
- 04Environmental Hazards
- The frog must evade water, piranhas, mosquitoes, and a bird that continuously pursues it.
- 05Time Records
- A records system tracks attempts to cover the greatest distance in the shortest time.
- 06Unlockable Skins
- Meeting non-player characters can open cosmetic skins for use during adventures.
Swamp Up compared to similar games
