Our take on Unsouled
The defining mechanic is attack chaining: each skill creates a brief opening for the next one, while its recovery pattern must be learned to sustain the sequence.
What is Unsouled?
Unsouled is a 2D action RPG built around fast combat, precise timing, and enemy reactions.
Players combine skills into chained attacks, using brief openings after each move to continue a sequence and learning the recovery patterns of individual abilities. Counterattacks provide another high-risk combat option, including strikes that can hit multiple targets. The environment also participates in combat and traversal: enemies can be thrown into walls, pushed from ledges, or crushed with falling objects, while some objects can create paths across obstacles. Passive Souls immediately alter abilities or unlock skills, while Active Souls trigger additional skills, combos, or escapes. The game includes five locations with retro pixel visuals and real-time lighting.
