Our take on Umurangi Generation
The defining loop pairs photo assignments with courier work: after completing bounties, players deliver a parcel to finish the level.
What is Umurangi Generation?
Umurangi Generation is a first-person photography game set in Tauranga, Aotearoa, amid an approaching crisis.
Players work as couriers for Tauranga Express, taking photos and completing photo bounties before delivering each parcel to finish a level. Photos are evaluated for colour, content, and composition, with a cash score contributing to the final payout. Levels also include exploration bonuses. Finding film canisters, recreating postcards, making timed deliveries, and fitting friends into one photo unlock camera equipment, including lenses. Players can edit their images and develop a colour grade using in-game tools. The experience combines photography, editing, exploration, and parcel delivery in a level-based structure.
How Umurangi Generation plays
- 01Photo evaluation
- Each image receives a cash score based on its colour, subject matter, and composition.
- 02Camera equipment unlocks
- Film canisters, postcard recreations, timed deliveries, and group-photo challenges provide ways to unlock gear.
- 03Photo editing
- In-game editing tools let players adjust images and develop a colour grade.
- 04Parcel delivery levels
- Completing the photo tasks is followed by delivering a parcel to end the level.
