Our take on Ultros
Its central structure ties progression to repeated story loops: restarting at key moments can uncover secrets, open areas, and reveal new abilities.
What is Ultros?
ULTROS is a metroidvania set on The Sarcophagus, a drifting alien landscape that holds an ancient demonic being.
After a ship crash, exploration and encounters with the inhabitants reveal the player’s role in a black-hole loop. Combat pits the player against cosmic lifeforms in close quarters, where precision matters. Between fights, tending to plant life provides quieter moments and opens access to hidden paths.
At key story moments, a loop mechanic lets the player start over, uncover secrets, reach different areas, and gain abilities on a branching skill tree. The game combines environmental storytelling with themes of life, death, mental health, and karmic cycles. Its setting uses a psychedelic art style and a soundtrack that blends Peruvian instruments with orchestral music.
