Our take on Type Your Fate
The retro command-line structure creates a strict trade-off: the game gives up saves, mouse and gamepad controls, and complex tutorials. Restarting after game over and managing options through typed commands are part of its deliberately old-fashioned format.
What is Type Your Fate?
Type Your Fate is a text-based interactive fiction game set in an abandoned house.
Players use a command console to move between rooms, inspect objects, and interact with items and events. The house contains up to 17 rooms and 68 interactive objects, while up to four different murderers may pursue the player. Escape requires finding the changing code for the main entrance and responding to randomly generated trivia and math challenges. Each game can vary through different door codes, hint locations, and killers.
Illustrations and sound accompany the text interface. The game does not include saving, mouse or gamepad controls, or complex tutorials. Sound volume and difficulty are adjusted through the command line, and a game over requires starting again from the beginning.
