What is Hadean Lands?
Hadean Lands is a text-based adventure about an apprentice alchemist stranded in an airless alien wasteland after a starship crash.
Gameplay uses typed commands rather than graphics, dialogue trees, or point-and-click controls. Exploration centers on learning rituals, collecting scarce ingredients, and combining or substituting materials through alchemical processes. The puzzles form an interconnected structure, with several possible ways to solve some challenges. A goal-tracking system records known solutions, allows learned rituals and solved puzzles to be repeated through commands, and supports travel to familiar rooms using the in-game map. It can also locate known keys and repeat intermediate solutions. The player investigates the crash, the missing crew, and the rituals needed to repair the ship.
