Our take on Tile Lands
Its focused tile-and-score structure leaves little room for the broader systems found in larger city builders, such as resource management, narrative progression, or combat. The finite deck also makes each session end once the available tiles are exhausted.
What is Tile Lands?
Tile Lands is a city-building strategy game played on a finite grid.
Tiles come from a procedurally generated deck and can be added beside existing tiles or placed over tiles already on the grid. Replacing a tile with one of the same type clears that space. Each placement awards points according to the tile’s conditions. Reaching point thresholds presents a choice of tile packs, which add new tiles to the deck. The session ends when no tiles remain. The game combines district organisation, building distribution, puzzle decisions, and score chasing. It offers a peaceful presentation and a board-game-like tile-laying structure, but does not include combat, resource management, a pre-written story, cinematics, or online multiplayer.
How Tile Lands plays
- 01Finite grid play
- Tiles can be placed next to existing tiles, over them, or cleared by matching their type.
- 02Procedural tile deck
- Each session draws from a generated deck, with new tile packs added after reaching point thresholds.
- 03Condition-based scoring
- Points depend on how well each placed tile’s requirements are met.
- 04Score-focused sessions
- The game ends when the available tiles run out, creating a contained run built around high scores.
