Our take on This is Hell
The game focuses its challenge on awkward, two-stick fist controls, so movement precision is sacrificed for frustration-driven difficulty. That narrow control idea also leaves less room for varied platforming mechanics, with the climb itself carrying the experience.
What is This is Hell?
This is Hell is a difficult platformer about escaping the depths of hell and reaching the pearly gates above.
Movement uses two controller joysticks, with each one directing one of the character’s oversized fists. The game takes inspiration from rage-focused titles such as Getting Over It, Jump King, and Pogostuck, and builds its challenge around awkward controls and repeated failure. The journey can last anywhere from 6 to infinite hours, depending on player performance, and some playtesters did not reach the goal. Radio broadcasts provide ads and interviews with hell’s inhabitants during the journey. Local co-op supports up to 4 players, allowing friends to attempt the climb together.
