Our take on The Bad Son
Survival is built around hide-and-seek: the player must evade pursuit through the night rather than rely on a combat-focused setup.
What is The Bad Son?
Set in 1979, this horror RPG follows a mystery surrounding Malachai and the other “bad sons” in Derrigtown, a town where the young hold power.
The story moves from a coastal village to the Holy Mountains, where Malachai leads young revolutionaries. Survival centers on stealth and hide-and-seek as deranged townsfolk and monsters pursue the player through the night. The setup begins with Tom stranded among cornfields after failing to check his car’s fuel gauge, while a threatening voice calls from the wind. Bizarre characters and grim humor shape the setting, alongside questions about who counts as good or bad and what Malachai wants.
How The Bad Son plays
- 01Stealth Survival
- The player uses hiding and evasion to survive a night of pursuit by townsfolk and monsters.
- 02Two-Part Setting
- The journey spans Derrigtown’s coast and the Holy Mountains, where Malachai leads young rebels.
- 03Dark Humor
- The town’s strange inhabitants and the story’s grim comedy give the horror an offbeat tone.
