Our take on Indiecalypse
The game trades focused mechanical depth for variety: its exploration framework is joined by more than 20 mini-games, cinematics and three character stories. That broad structure gives each element less room to become a standalone system, while the crude humor and fictional legal fears shape the tone.
What is Indiecalypse?
Indiecalypse follows Jack Jackson, Ethan Wornick and Violet Oakly, three developers working in programming, music and art.
Players experience their separate stories as the characters collaborate on an indie game amid chaos, resentment and self-destructive behavior. The main gameplay uses exploration and adventure elements, alongside more than 20 mini-games inspired by recognizable video game mechanics. The game also includes cinematics, dark humor, violence, fear and pop-culture references. Its narrative focuses on the difficulties of producing and releasing a game, including fictional concerns about copyright, obscenity and profanity lawsuits. Each character has a particular story, with the trio sharing the goal of creating and publishing a video game.
