Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking combat-focused or high-pressure gameplay may find the restoration and exploration structure too quiet.
- Players looking for deep farm-management systems may find the advertised activities centered on cleanup, repairs, travel, and collecting.
- Players wanting a densely populated social simulation may find the setting's community limited to a small number of residents.
Our take on Farlands
The premise presents planetary ownership as the central hook, but the actual activities described are modest restoration, travel, collection, and conversations. The abandoned setting and sale-price mystery add narrative framing, while the day-to-day structure remains focused on improving a rural property.
What is Farlands?
Farlands is a farming and exploration game about taking ownership of an abandoned planet in a remote solar system.
Players clear overgrown areas, reopen paths, recover neglected fields, and repair damaged parts of the property. A worn ship provides travel between planets, where resources can be collected for improving the farm, equipment, and vessel. The solar system also contains a small group of residents whose stories and reasons for remaining there can be discovered. Alongside restoring the planet and building a rural home, the game introduces a mystery surrounding its unusually low sale price and the condition of the wider solar system.
How Farlands plays
- 01Planet Restoration
- Tasks include removing weeds, reopening routes, recovering fields, and repairing damage accumulated over time.
- 02Solar Exploration
- A personal spacecraft enables travel among planets and resource gathering across the system.
- 03Farm Upgrades
- Collected materials can be used to improve the homestead, tools, and spacecraft.
- 04Community Encounters
- The remaining inhabitants of the planets share their stories and reasons for living in the remote system.
- 05Unfolding Mystery
- The bargain purchase and the planet's abandoned state lead into a wider problem affecting the solar system.
Farlands compared to similar games
Farlands combines planetary restoration, interplanetary travel, resource collection, and resident stories. Mr. Prepper centers on underground shelter construction, crafting, survival, and resistance to an authoritarian government, while Bear and Breakfast focuses on operating a woodland bed-and-breakfast. Calico instead centers on rebuilding a cat café and populating it with animals, furniture, decorations, and food.
