Our take on Thing-in-Itself
Players looking for a conventional game will bounce off the opening premise: there are no win or lose conditions, no stated challenge, and only about 15 minutes of interaction. The experience asks for attention to perception, dialogue, and atmosphere rather than mastery of a system.
What is Thing-in-Itself?
This short interactive story follows Ted and Molly as they move through stages of a relationship and question how each person perceives the other.
Immanuel Kant’s concept of the thing-in-itself provides a framework for examining conflicting viewpoints and the influence of surroundings. Players engage with casual interactions, select dialogue options, and experience environmental changes during an average 15-minute walkthrough. Voice acting and an original musical score accompany the narrative. The project does not use traditional win or lose conditions and presents no challenge-based gameplay, instead combining short-story elements with interactive scenes.
