Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who want turn-based battles on hex-based maps
- Adventure fans interested in post-nuclear wastelands and mutant enemies
- Players who enjoy collecting loot and testing varied weapon combinations
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want real-time combat will hit a wall when battles switch to turn-based encounters.
- Players seeking a tightly directed sequence of levels may bounce off the open-world exploration structure.
- Players who do not want to manage random weapon combinations may find the equipment system unsuitable.
Our take on The Wanderer
The bounce point is the combat transition: players looking for continuous real-time action will instead encounter turn-based fights on hex maps. A second friction point arrives when weapons are purchased randomly with mutant teeth, making equipment selection depend on available rolls rather than a fixed arsenal.
What is The Wanderer?
Enter a dark, post-nuclear wasteland where exploration and survival lead into turn-based combat.
Travel through lakes, deserts, and hills populated by hand-drawn flora and fauna. Battles take place on hex-based maps, with rescued cats and dogs joining the quest against mutants and roamers. Collect mutant teeth underground and spend them on randomly generated weapons with gameplay-changing powers. Hidden items such as boomboxes, cassettes, and Grobo beer bottles can also be found and collected for use in underground battles. The game combines open-world exploration, mutant encounters, collectible loot, and weapon combinations within its wasteland setting.
How The Wanderer plays
