Our take on Civil War: Battle of Petersburg
The base game contains four historical scenarios, while the two 15-mission Grand Campaigns are optional expansions. The store page gives substantial attention to those campaigns, which can make the standard game's narrower scenario count less apparent.
What is Civil War: Battle of Petersburg?
Direct Union or Confederate troops in four historical engagements near Petersburg and Richmond during 1864.
Each unit receives restricted movement and attack actions per turn, so terrain, artillery deployment, cavalry placement, commanders and damaged formations shape tactical choices. Infantry, cavalry, artillery and generals battle across hex-grid maps, while strikes from the rear provide a 40% flanking advantage. Several difficulty settings and two battlefield perspectives are available. Matches support online play, LAN, hotseat sessions and email turns. The Scenario Editor lets players build battlefields, arrange forces and set objectives, then distribute them through Steam Workshop. Two optional Grand Campaign add-ons provide 15 missions apiece, along with persistent armies, headquarters administration, supply management and extra objectives.
