Our take on The Old Gentleman
The main bounce point arrives when Morse code becomes the command interface. Players must consult the codebook, transmit dot-and-dash sequences, track a crewmate through limited visibility, and respond to a monster while submarine monitors fail and relocate.
What is The Old Gentleman?
The Old Gentleman is a short point-and-click horror game set in a submarine on the seafloor.
Players use fixed-perspective 3D views and control monitors to guide a crewmate, who searches for replacement parts needed to repair the vessel. Morse code provides the main communication system: a codebook and transmitter are used to send movement and action commands. Sonar pings help locate parts, while the periscope offers a limited view of the submarine’s surroundings. A monster can approach the submarine or crewmate, requiring flare commands and careful tracking of the remaining flares. As monitors fail and reroute to spares, movement between control stations becomes part of the pressure.
How The Old Gentleman plays
- 01Morse Code Commands
- A codebook and transmitter let players direct the crewmate with dot-and-dash signals.
- 02Seafloor Salvage
- The submarine map and sonar pulses support searches for parts needed to restore the vessel.
- 03Monster Evasion
- A flare can distract the creature, but the available supply must be monitored.
- 04Failing Monitors
- Damaged control screens move their functions to spare monitors, increasing travel between stations.
- 05Limited Visibility
- The periscope provides a restricted view, leaving the map and sonar to track the crewmate beyond the lit area.
- 06FMV Sequences
- Full-motion video scenes are included alongside the retro-styled presentation.
