Our take on The Nature
The defining structure is action-driven character development: the four attributes rise from what the character does, such as walking or dodging, instead of being assigned directly.
What is The Nature?
The Nature is an RPG set among creatures competing to survive.
A character can speak with the Spirit of Nature and is tasked with defeating other anomalies. Four attributes—strength, vitality, agility, and intelligence—rise based on actions rather than direct allocation; walking and dodging, for example, can affect development. Weapons grant new skills, while combat includes slow, immobilized, and poisoned conditions. Gathering supports crafting, including a dream item that disappears after creation. A partner can be found and a child started, with no reversal after commitment. Creatures may join a party after being defeated, but hunger and thirst can affect their duties. Text files allow changes to parameters, abilities, content, music, and sound effects.
How The Nature plays
- 01Action-Based Attributes
- Strength, vitality, agility, and intelligence develop in response to activities such as movement and projectile dodging.
- 02Weapon Skills
- Equipping weapons provides access to additional abilities.
- 03Party Recruitment
- Defeated creatures may submit to joining, while hunger and thirst can make party members ignore assigned duties.
- 04Family Commitment
- Finding a partner enables starting a child, but the commitment cannot later be reversed.
- 05Text File Modding
- Local text files can alter creature and item parameters, skill effects, blueprints, music, sound effects, and add quests or other content.
The Nature compared to similar games
The Nature combines survival systems, crafting, party recruitment, family formation, and action-based attributes, unlike Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition, which centers on an unconventional story, characters, and exploration. Back to the Dawn focuses on prison survival, investigation, and escape, while Ghost of a Tale emphasizes stealth, disguises, conversations, and exploration in an animal-populated medieval world.
