Our take on The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ - Legacy Edition
Rather than following the central fellowship, this action RPG creates a parallel group defending the North while Frodo and Samwise pursue Mount Doom. It also gives cooperative players different character abilities, including magical support, ranged attacks, and durable melee combat.
What is The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ - Legacy Edition?
War in the North follows a new fellowship defending Middle-earth while Frodo and Samwise travel toward Mount Doom.
Players choose Eradan, a Dúnedain ranger using bows and swords; Andriel, an elven loremaster with healing and area spells; or Farin, a dwarf built for durability and melee attacks. Online or split-screen cooperation supports play with up to two friends, with the heroes combining their different abilities in battle. Character development includes skills, abilities, weapons, and armor that shape each hero’s playstyle. Beleram, a Great Eagle, can attack enemies from above. The journey visits Rivendell, Lórien, the Lonely Mountain, and Mirkwood, with appearances by Aragorn, Gandalf, and Elrond. Enemies include Orcs, Trolls, Wargs, Barrow-wights, Fell Beasts, and other creatures serving Agandaûr.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ - Legacy Edition compared to similar games
Ghost of a Tale is also an action RPG, but centers on a mouse minstrel in an animal-populated medieval world with exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations. War in the North instead focuses on cooperative combat, three playable characters, character gear, and a Tolkien-based setting. Alpha Protocol is another action RPG, but follows a government agent dealing with an international catastrophe rather than a fantasy fellowship battling Orcs and other creatures.
