Our take on The Last Man
Rather than centering progression on clearing every enemy, the game lets players choose between fighting and evasion while pursuing an exit. Its one-hit death rule also shifts the usual action-game emphasis on sustained exchanges toward cautious survival.
What is The Last Man?
The Last Man is a top-down survival horror game about escaping a facility occupied by aliens.
Players search for weapons and gear while trying to reach an exit, choosing whether to fight the aliens or avoid them. A single enemy hit can kill the player, and ammunition can become scarce. The game includes 9 weapons, 4 modes, and 6 maze-like levels; all levels require playing on very hard mode to see. Item and exit-door locations are procedurally generated, and there are 6 different endings.
How The Last Man plays
- 01Procedural placements
- Item and exit-door locations are generated anew, changing where players search for supplies and a way out.
- 02Multiple endings
- The game has 6 possible endings.
- 03Weapon selection
- The 9 weapons range from a combat knife to a sniper rifle.
- 04Variable difficulty modes
- There are 4 modes, and reaching every level requires playing on very hard mode.
