Our take on The Keep
Rather than using turn-based dungeon battles, The Keep makes combat real time and requires attacks against specific enemy body areas. Its rune board also replaces ordinary spell selection with arranging and chaining runes, while every difficulty includes a Permadeath option.
What is The Keep?
The Keep is a first-person dungeon crawler set beneath and around a sorcerer's tower.
Exploration leads through caves and mines containing monsters, hidden treasures, traps, trapdoors, secret passages, and mechanisms. Combat takes place in real time, with attacks aimed at different parts of an enemy's body and weapon classes offering distinct combos. Its rune magic system uses a 5×4 board: rearrange runes and chain them to cast Fire, Ice, or Lightning spells. Runes are scarce, so spell selection matters. Character progression includes leveling and finding armor and weapons. Three difficulty levels are available, and each includes a Permadeath option.
How The Keep plays
- 01Real-Time Combat
- Attacks target an enemy's upper body, lower body, or head, while weapon classes provide different combo options.
- 02Rune Spellcasting
- A 5×4 board lets players arrange and link scarce runes to create Fire, Ice, and Lightning magic.
- 03Dungeon Puzzles
- Caves and dungeons contain traps, hidden routes, trapdoors, treasures, and mechanisms guarding secret passages.
- 04Three Difficulty Levels
- Each difficulty setting includes a Permadeath option.
- 05Character Progression
- The warrior can gain levels and acquire armor and weapons during the quest.
