Our take on The Hotel
The defining mechanic is a hotel whose layout can change when the player moves or turns the camera, transforming entrances into walls and dead ends into new routes.
What is The Hotel?
The Hotel is a psychological horror thriller set in an isolated, unfamiliar building.
The player controls a man trapped in a room and investigates what lies beyond it while an unseen presence communicates through messages. Paranormal events increase stress, and rising stress can drive the character into insanity. Failures strengthen the hotel’s inhabitant and may eventually cause permanent death.
The building changes as the player moves or turns the camera: former entrances can become walls, while blocked areas may open into new routes. Guests are asked questions throughout the game, with responses shaping decisions about whether to engage with the hotel. The player must also assess an enigmatic observer who comments on their actions and may or may not be trustworthy.
How The Hotel plays
- 01Stress and Sanity
- Paranormal events raise stress, and excessive stress can cause the character to lose their sanity.
- 02Changing Layout
- Turning the camera or moving through the building can alter routes, entrances, and previously blocked spaces.
- 03Failure Consequences
- Mistakes strengthen the hotel’s inhabitant and can eventually result in permanent death.
- 04Guest Questionnaires
- The game repeatedly presents surveys whose questions require decisions about honesty, refusal, and engagement.
- 05Unclear Observer
- A mysterious figure sends messages about the player’s actions, leaving their motives and trustworthiness uncertain.
