Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a purely real-time strategy game may hit a wall when theatre decisions switch to turn-based management.

- Players looking for a fantasy, science-fiction, or World War II setting will find a focused 1914–1919 Western Front scenario instead.
Our take on The Great War: Western Front™
The bounce point arrives when battlefield command gives way to theatre management. Players focused on immediate unit control must also handle deployments, research, resources, faction choices, and decisions whose effects can carry into later encounters.
What is The Great War: Western Front™?
Command either the Allied Nations or Central Powers across the Western Front from 1914 to 1919.
The game combines turn-based theatre management with real-time battlefield command: deploy forces, research technologies, manage resources, construct trench networks, and direct infantry, artillery, tanks, and assaults. Weather affects artillery and unit movement, while earlier battles leave lasting damage on later battlefields. Four modes are included: Campaign, Historical Battles, Skirmish, and Multiplayer. Faction abilities and gameplay styles differ, and technology choices can change the timing of developments such as poison gas and tanks. The Victory Edition also contains a digital field guide, a 31-track soundtrack, and five wallpapers.
