Our take on FAR: Changing Tides
The focus on solitary travel and hands-on vessel management leaves little room for combat systems, multiplayer play, or broad character progression. Its deliberate pace makes the ship itself the main source of interaction, rather than one element among several competing gameplay systems.
What is FAR: Changing Tides?
FAR: Changing Tides is a vehicle adventure about Toe, a boy stranded in a flooded world and travelling by ship to find a new home.
The journey crosses stormy waters, submerged areas, and the ruins of a former society. Players operate the vessel by raising the mast, adjusting the sails, lighting the furnace, unlocking components, repairing faults, and collecting fuel and salvage. Environmental hazards and puzzles shape the voyage, while the ship’s systems become more complex over time. A reactive soundtrack changes with player actions and surrounding events. The Deluxe Edition includes the base game and 34 original soundtrack tracks by Joel Schoch.

Jusant is also a meditative action-puzzle journey, but it centers on climbing a tall tower, stamina management, and choosing routes. FAR: Changing Tides instead builds its exploration around sailing, underwater travel, ship maintenance, and environmental hazards.
