Our take on Struggling
The strange setting and comic hazards are prominent, but the core activity is repeated coordination of two independently controlled arms. The main test is managing awkward shared movement, rather than following conventional platforming routes.
What is Struggling?
Struggling is a physics-based co-op platformer centered on controlling the arms of a soft-bodied creature.
Each player operates one arm while the pair moves through a strange world filled with hazards and unusual obstacles. Progress involves crawling, swinging, climbing, and sliding, with the arms attaching to objects such as levers and hanging eyeballs. The game includes encounters with hungry rats, a dirt-bike ride, and pools of waste. Movement requires coordination because even walking depends on both arms working together. Failed attempts can tear the creature’s arms off, after which they grow back. Communication between partners forms the main structure of the platforming challenges.
How Struggling plays
- 01Shared arm control
- Co-op play assigns one of the creature’s arms to each participant.
- 02Physics-based movement
- Players navigate by crawling, swinging, climbing, and sliding through physical obstacles.
- 03Environmental grabbing
- The arms can latch onto objects including levers and dangling eyeballs.
- 04Regrowing limbs
- Arms return after hazards tear them away.
