Our take on The Castles of Burgundy
Dice do not determine an entire turn: they set the available action options, and players decide how to use them. That shifts the focus from following a fixed sequence toward choosing among constrained actions and planning how to earn points over successive rounds.
What is The Castles of Burgundy?
Set in the Loire Valley during the 15th century, this digital board game puts players in the role of princes developing their estates.
Two dice determine the available action options, while players choose how to use them for trade, livestock farming, city building, or scientific research. Several routes can earn victory points, making planning across rounds central to play. Estates differ between games. Play options include opponents controlled by the computer, friends, and online players, with ranked, casual, asynchronous, and live matches.
Solo play is available offline. A tutorial covers the rules, and asynchronous matches can send notifications. The game also includes a world ladder with GLICKO ratings and lists support for English, German, French, Spanish, Korean, simplified Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Italian.
