StrategyIs Gaia Project worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want a competitive science-fiction colonization game
- Board-game players who enjoy terraforming, technology research, and federation building
- Small groups seeking a 1-4 player game with distinct faction requirements
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a lightweight strategy game may hit a wall when terraforming, upgrades, federations, expansion, and research must be managed together.
- Players looking for combat-focused gameplay may find the peaceful colonization and development structure too indirect.
- Players who want a game without faction-specific environmental requirements may not fit its planet-settlement system.
Our take on Gaia Project
The bounce point is the layered development system: players must manage planet suitability, mine upgrades, federations, expansion choices, and technology research. Anyone seeking a simple placement game may hit the wall when these systems begin competing for attention.
What is Gaia Project?
Gaia Project is a digital adaptation of a board game set in the far future, in the same universe as Terra Mystica.
One to four players each control one of 14 factions, and every faction has different environmental needs for surviving on a planet. Gameplay includes terraforming, colonizing new planets, upgrading mines into better structures, and joining planets into federations. Players choose whether to expand near other factions, potentially gaining power and trade partners, or seek solitude for freer expansion. They also research technologies to improve their skills. Victory goes to the best-developed faction at the end of the game.
How Gaia Project plays
- 01Fourteen Factions
- Each faction has different environmental requirements for surviving on a planet.
- 02Planetary Terraforming
- Players make different planet types habitable for their chosen faction.
- 03Structure Upgrades
- Mines can be upgraded into better structures as players develop their territory.
- 04Federation Building
- Players can unite planets to create federations.
- 05Technology Research
- Research allows factions to discover technologies that improve their skills.
- 06Expansion Choices
- Players can expand near other factions for possible power and trade partners or seek solitude for freer expansion.
