Our take on The Black Pool
Its defining structure is the changing run: world order, ability offerings, and upgrades are randomized each attempt, while selected permanent enhancements carry forward between playthroughs.
What is The Black Pool?
The Black Pool is a 3D action roguelike for solo play or cooperative groups of up to four.
Each attempt sends players through a procedurally selected sequence of worlds, where they choose abilities, augments, and upgrades from randomized options while fighting enemies and bosses. Builds can combine powers across nine elements, with decisions and improvisation shaping each run. Permanent enhancements carry across attempts. Cooperative abilities support interactions such as redirecting attacks, amplifying spells, and coordinating stuns or buffs. The game includes 10 worlds, more than 50 levels, 55 enemies, 11 multi-stage bosses, and four endgame challenge modes. Arena Survivors offers shorter runs of around 30 minutes across four arenas, compared with 90 minutes for the full mode.

The Black Pool compared to similar games

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened combines cooperative action RPG play with tower defense, loot, leveling, pets, and character customization rather than The Black Pool's run-based world sequence.
