Our take on The Backrooms Experiment
The social element has an exposed trade-off: whistles can locate separated friends, but entities can hear them too. Cooperation is therefore presented as a communication tool that may also reveal the group’s position.
What is The Backrooms Experiment?
The Backrooms Experiment is a cooperative walking simulator with horror and thriller elements.
Players explore barren Backrooms levels with different environments, difficulties, and gameplay mechanics. Entities including Bacteria, Skinstealers, Partygoers, Smilers, Hounds, and other creatures wander the levels. Their behaviors vary: Skinstealers mimic people to lure others, Partygoers pursue players but may give up after failing to catch them, and Hounds are vulnerable to flashlights. Groups can cooperate while exploring and use whistles to locate friends who become separated. Whistles also make noise that entities can hear, creating a risk during communication. The stated objective is to find a way in the Backrooms while avoiding the entities and staying alive.
