Our take on Backroom Company
The game gives up predictable navigation in Exploration Mode, making disorientation part of its fear-driven design. That trade-off supports uncertainty but can make progress less direct than in a straightforward map-based adventure.
What is Backroom Company?
Backroom Company follows a test subject investigating the Backrooms, an unknown space reached through the Noclip phenomenon.
The objective is to gather unusual objects, film unidentified entities, and transmit the captured information while remaining alive. Exploration Mode uses changing environments where getting lost is part of the challenge. Story Mode follows a set route to reveal the conspiracy surrounding Backroom Company. Areas include a hotel, swimming pool, parking lot, sewers, and school. Survival involves recording evidence, hiding from an immortal pursuer, quieting footsteps, and holding the breath against a creature that detects breathing. Players can team up with companions, although panic may create additional danger during group exploration.
