ActionIs Tallowmere worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-platformer players who want procedurally changing rooms and permanent-death runs
- Solo players or local groups seeking same-screen combat for up to 4 people
- Players who enjoy collecting varied equipment and improving stats and passive abilities
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed campaign with authored levels and a defined ending may find the endless, regenerated structure repetitive
- Players who prefer forgiving combat may dislike shield timing, traps, escalating difficulty, and permadeath
- Players looking for online or LAN co-op are not suited to its local-only multiplayer format
Our take on Tallowmere
The endless procedural structure supports repeated runs, but it trades away a fixed campaign route and predictable level design. Permadeath also means equipment and progress gathered during a run are tied to surviving that attempt.
What is Tallowmere?
Tallowmere is a 2D action platformer with roguelite structure and an infinite dungeon made from newly generated rooms.
Each room places enemies, elite foes, bosses, traps, keys, and treasure, while later rooms become larger, harder, and more rewarding. Combat uses a raised shield to block attacks, followed by strikes when the timing is right; jumping and movement help avoid hazards. Runs include weapons, outfits, headgear, shields, potions, coins, hearts, and souls.
Souls can increase base stats and passive abilities. Permadeath ends a run, while a soft save system allows a session to be resumed later. The game supports solo play and local co-op for up to 4 players on one screen, along with challenge modes, difficulty settings, personal scores, and Steam leaderboards.
How Tallowmere plays
- 01Procedural dungeon rooms
- Rooms are generated anew for each run and become larger, more difficult, and more rewarding as progress continues.
- 02Shield-based combat
- Players block attacks with a raised shield, then lower it to attack when an opening appears.
- 03Varied equipment
- The arsenal includes axes, clubs, katanas, daggers, ice wands, grenades, flamethrowers, and rocket launchers.
- 04Local four-player co-op
- Single-screen local play supports up to 4 players using connected controllers.
- 05Stat and ability upgrades
- Souls collected from defeated enemies can raise base stats and passive abilities.
- 06Permadeath runs
- A failed attempt ends the current run, while soft saves allow a session to be paused and resumed.
- 07Leaderboards and challenges
- Personal scores, local scoreboards, online leaderboards, and challenge modes track different accomplishments.
