Our take on Swords and Sandals Spartacus
Its defining structure is a direct action-platforming adventure that leaves out metroidvania backtracking and grinding, while adding an optional permadeath mode for a harsher run.
What is Swords and Sandals Spartacus?
Play as Spartacus in an action platformer set across Ancient Rome and surrounding locations.
Fight slave drivers, legionnaires, centurions, animals, demons, and gods with sword attacks, shield blocks, and thrown javelins. Levels combine combat with fencing, traps, zip lines, mountain climbs, castles, mines, and forests. Treasures can be collected and spent on improving weapons, shields, and powers. The game uses retro pixel art and follows direct progression without metroidvania-style backtracking or grinding. Permadeath mode adds a further challenge. The adventure follows Spartacus after his escape from the arena as he confronts Roman forces and frees enslaved people.
