Our take on Swarm Queen
The defining constraint is the four-slot egg system: every mutation determines which combat bugs can be produced, while those bugs handle targeting independently during the fight.
What is Swarm Queen?
Swarm Queen is a real-time strategy game set on Europa, where an insectoid queen directs self-governing combat bugs against an opposing swarm.
The minions select targets on their own, leaving strategic decisions about egg mutations, unit production, nectar collection, and battle timing to the player. Four egg slots limit the available choices at any moment. Its campaign contains 21 levels, each introducing an enemy unit or ability that becomes available later. The opposing queen gathers nectar, produces units, and adapts to the situation.
Completing the campaign opens challenge levels, while hard mode and New Game Plus provide additional variations. New Game Plus gives both queens extra nectar. The game also includes an alternate cartoon visual style, achievements, visible enemy emotions, and a lower difficulty setting.
How Swarm Queen plays
- 01Autonomous Combat Bugs
- Spawned minions select their own targets while the queen concentrates on larger tactical decisions.
- 02Four Egg Slots
- Only four slots are available for mutations, making each choice of combat unit selective.
- 0321-Level Campaign
- Each campaign stage introduces an enemy unit or ability that can become available in subsequent levels.
- 04Resource Collection
- Harvester bugs gather nectar needed to support the swarm.
- 05Challenge Variations
- Campaign completion unlocks challenge stages, while hard mode and New Game Plus offer further ways to replay the game.
Swarm Queen compared to similar games
Swarm Queen uses real-time battles between autonomous insect units, with strategy centered on mutations, nectar, and a four-slot production limit. Xenonauts instead uses turn-based small-squad operations against aliens, while Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation focuses on managing vast armies across a galactic setting.
