- Players who prefer short, self-contained stages may not want a campaign structured around a single run through nine levels.
- Players looking for a climbing or action-puzzle game will find a shooter rather than a traversal-focused experience.
Our take on Starr Mazer: DSP
The defining structure is a nine-level campaign played as a single run, with SK:ORE used to recruit replacement pilots when a squadron falls.
What is Starr Mazer: DSP?
Starr Mazer: DSP is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up with a roguelike twist on lives and continues.
Players assemble a squadron of pilots, each with different ships, weapons, stats, and voices, then choose a team before each mission. The campaign spans nine levels in three acts, from the surface of Thersa-CPIX to the G’ell Super Ship, with enemy waves and three bosses. During a run, Carbomite pickups power primary weapons or a super weapon. SK:ORE gathered from defeated enemies and Carbomite pickups can be spent on a replacement squadron of pilots, so the battle continues after a squadron falls. Legendary pilots can also be discovered and added to the roster.
